I liked how she said "Prisoner of Words" rather then "Prisoner of War" and used P.O.W.. I like how she used repetition to get her idea across. She never got up from the chair until near the ending which would mean that she's stuck in a prison and another thing that I like was that she kept on changing the tone of her voice and didn't use any swear words to show her anger or her feelings.
My thoughts on this video were that this is poem because I think it had rhythm and sound that makes it sound like a poem. I actually loved Alicia Key’s performance. She added movement, expressions and meaning into the poem. P.O.W stands for prisoner of war but in Alicia’s poem it stands for prisoner of words. I think she’s trying to tell us in this poem that she can’t speak up for herself and how she may be depressed and how she’s trapped in her own head. I also think that she may try to find who she is as a person. All the words that she hasn’t said are trapped in her mind like a prison cell. I actually liked every bit of the poem there’s wasn’t any parts that I didn’t like. I don’t think there was a message for people in this poem because she only talked about herself. This poem might be trying to communicate people who are depressed or for people who may try to find themselves as a person.
I think its a great poem, I like it how it uses P.O.W as (prisoner of words) connecting to the original POW term from World War Two from the "prisoners of war". Alicia Key's performance was swell, i loved how she used her actions and expressions as she said the poem because it gives the poem rhythm and mood like her voice shapes it into music. I didn't find anything i didn't like, great performance. The message of the poem is which she's trying to say is that people fear to hear the truth so thats why she said she's the prisoner of her words unsaid. People create their own prisons themselves by being silent from fearing to open their mouths. This is poetry because it expresses feelings and thoughts. The poem rhymes smoothly as well as it uses repetition at the same time.
I liked how she put so much emphasis in her words. She really drew her audience into how she was feeling and what she was thinking. She had a good pace that seemed to work for her and her audience; and she was really comfortable with expressing what was on her mind. There was also a lot of repetition and movement throughout; a lot of raw emotion was also involved: anger, fear... it seemed like a very strong confession. -evelyn
This was one of my top most performances I have seen. I loved how she used metaphoric uses to get the point across. Such as P.O.W which initially stands for Prisoner of War, but for Alicia Key's instance, it stands for Prisoner of Words(unsaid). I liked the power of her movement that correlated to her emotion, to speak of her animosity towards herself to not say what she truly felt, and to bend her feelings in order to protect those of others. I related a lot to this piece, I have also been one to be Prisoner of Words unspoken. So her performance connected me to it. I would clarify this a poem because not only did it rhyme, it also had rhythm and a flow. The atmosphere was being created by each word. And I think she accomplished to send out a very strong message. -revina g.
I really liked this video. I like how Alicia Keys uses P.O.W as prisoner of words instead of prisoner of war. I also like how she uses hand gestures to express her feelings and how she put so much power into her words. I think Alicia Keys is telling us that she doesnt express her feelings honestly and keeps her thoughts trapped in her head and just says what others want to hear (like a puppet). She isnt able to say what she wants to which makes her a prisoner of words. I think that this is a poem because it has rhythm and it flows smoothly. Another thing that makes it a poem is that it shows expression and feelings. - Poonam
